Migration Visualization Tool

Short description

The tool uses the output of the Migration Statistical Tool and visualizes the migration rates on a map of the country under research.

The MVT is the third part of the IDS Mobility Tool that was developed in the context of the LONGPOP project by the Radboud Group for Historical Demography and Family History and the Humanities Lab of the Radboud University.

Purpose

Visualizes the migration rates on a map with a regional division

Rationale

Although the end result of the MST can be used for analysis, the outcome can perhaps better be analyzed when plotted on a map of the country under research. Mapping data can be a time consuming and laborious task though. The Migration Visualization Tool (MVT) is developed to simplify the use of maps to compare migration rates within a country or between countries. This makes comparisons between different rates for one country or the different rates for different countries much more practical.

Background

The Migration Extraction Tool is part of the IDS Mobility Tool that was developed in the context of the LONGPOP project by the Radboud Group for Historical Demography and Family History. The Humanities Lab of the Radboud University was responsible for the programming of the tool.

Data used in development: Historical Sample of the Netherlands (HSN)
