The course hosted 25 Europeans students, mainly from Eastern European countries. The goal of the school was to reduce the gap between the western and the eastern Europe by enhancing knowledge and skills in order to attend other, especially advanced, courses, held in western European centres for demographic research like Nijmegen, Umeå , Geneva and Lund. Experienced lecturers came from The Netherlands, Austria, Hungary, France and Belgium.
The program of the school concentrated on delivering basic knowledge in the main fields of demographic research like Fertility, Mortality, Nuptiality, Migration, Family and Household, Life courses, complemebted by a methodical introduction to sources, databases and Access software and a special R computer workshop.
The program was organized in sessions addressing theoretical and methodological issues in the mornings and practical exercises in the afternoon.
All students completed the course successfully.
